Event Description:
October 18: Season Opener Orchestra Concert, 3 p.m. at Rockland Community Church. The Guest Artist featured on this concert is Jeremy Wendelin, Evergreen saxophonist, who performs in the Jazz idiom around the area in addition to his classical performances in area orchestras. This concert features Jeremy performing two concerti for alto saxophone, by Jacques Ibert and Alexander Glazunov. Both pieces were dedicated to one of the classical saxophone's pioneers, Sigurd Rascher; both helped establish the saxophone as a solo instrument. Also featured are ECO violinists Katherine Thayer and Julia Barrett, performing a Vivaldi Concerto for Two Violins and Orchestra. Rounding out the program are Rossini's Overture to La Gazza Ladra (The Thieving Magpie), and a Sinfonietta by French master of melody and lush harmonies, Francis Poulenc.
