Ovation Celebration

A Free Community Event Celebrating Center Stage: A Community Treasure

Sunday, June 9, 3:00 - 5:00 pm at Center Stage in Evergreen

Ovation West Performing Arts invites the entire community to a free event at Center Stage on Sunday, June 9, from 3:00 – 5:00pm, to celebrate Center Stage as a historic gem and vibrant creative hub which represents the best of Evergreen in many ways. Ovation West will provide complimentary snacks and beverages, and the afternoon will feature entertainment by the bluegrass band “The Joey Purmort Trio” as well as cameo performances by the Evergreen Players, Ovation West, and others.
Center Stage is a community treasure and an example of partnerships across Evergreen. The nearly 100-year-old building serves as a performing arts venue, visual art gallery, and community gathering space, welcoming over 13,000 people each year. Ovation West owns the building and presents two full-scale musicals there annually, along with the Shining Stars Concert Series, Summer Music Camp, and other special events. The Evergreen Players, Evergreen Children’s Chorale, and Mountain Youth Musicals all call Center Stage their performance home. In addition to performances and camps offered by these groups, the building is often used for community meetings, adult language classes, and more.
The lobby, known as the Rotary Gallery, was built through a partnership with the Rotary Club of Evergreen, and art exhibits there are coordinated by Center for The Arts Evergreen, which considers it one of their satellite galleries. The lobby has just been renovated through the efforts of Colleen Lee and Tracy Denver, who have performed many times at Center Stage and wanted to give back to a place that means so much to them. They set up a GoFundMe campaign to raise the money for a cosmetic make-over of the lobby. This event will serve as the official “unveiling” of the lobby to the community, and include free refreshments, performances by a home-grown bluegrass trio and some of the groups that use Center Stage, and a drawing and paddle raiser to raise money for the operation of the building.
The Evergreen Chorale rebranded as Ovation West Performing Arts last July, to give the organization an umbrella name which could better represent the many ways it serves the community. Their six main areas of service and programming include the Evergreen Chorale, Ovation West Musical Theatre, Center Stage, Altezza Chamber Choir, Summer Music Camp, and the Shining Stars Concert Series. The organization receives support through grants from the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD), Colorado Creative Industries, the Community First Foundation, and the Virginia W. Hill Charitable Foundation. In addition, many local businesses lend support as season sponsors and advertisers, including Huiting Wealth Management, Berkshire Hathaway Elevated Living, Kids to College Pediatric Dentistry, Colorado Serenity Magazine, the Evergreen Jazz Festival, and Chow Down Pet Supplies.
