RRCC Presents a Creative Writing Workshop
Instructed by English Faculty
LAKEWOOD, CO - Red Rocks Community College (RRCC) English Department invites community members to participate in a oneday
creative writing workshop on Saturday, November 10, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The workshop will focus on fiction and will
be led by esteemed faculty members Leah Rogin-Roper and Kyle Whitecotton. This generative workshop for all writers explores
characterization, dialogue, and tension—even defying the rules and developing voice. The workshop will be held on the Lakewood
campus in room 1150. Bring a brown-bag lunch.
"Understanding the elements of fiction is important for all writers, even if they consider themselves primarily poets or even journalists.
Narrative form is one of our defining attributes as humans, not just writers. Learning to defy and twist narrative form is a way to
reconsider writing as an act of rebellion,” says workshop instructor and faculty member Leah Rogin-Roper. "Our fiction workshop is
designed for all kinds of writers at all levels. We will work on generating new material while also discussing elements of fiction so that
everyone should walk away with inklings of several new pieces that can be developed outside of the workshop. Giving yourself time
and permission to show up, to get started on your writing is the first job of the writer, and creating new material is my favorite stage of
the writing process. If you're an aspiring writer who has never really thought about the collaborative nature of writing, a quick one-day
workshop is the perfect starting point."
The workshop fee is $25. To register for the Fiction Workshop, please call 303-914-6221. Have additional questions? Please contact
faculty member Sandra Sajbel at sandra.sajbel@rrcc.edu.
