Jul 19 Jeffco Open Space Nature Journal Club: Sketching Wildflowers
Want to deepen your love of the natural world, notice nature?s tiniest details and spend time surrounded by the beauty of the outdoors? Then start keeping a sketchbook nature journal! Join us for a free journaling field trip in a Jeffco Open Space Park each month and make this activity a habit. Instruction will be geared for adults, but children are welcome to attend with an adult. Do you want to become better at identifying local wildflowers? Drawing is one of the best ways to enhance your observation and plant I.D. skills. In this outing we will examine different shapes of flowers and discover tips for recording them in our journals. A bounty of blossoms can be found along the trails at Reynolds Park making it the perfect place to practice plant drawing techniques. This program will take place along the trails and not at a pavilion with tables. Please bring a portable stool, chair or blanket to sit on. There will be a restroom close to our journaling location. For the comfort of fellow participants, please leave pets at home. Please bring the following items: Your own sketchbook, a pencil and any other art supplies you would like to use. We will also have some art materials to share Sturdy footwear, warm layers in case it gets chilly and a rain coat A bowl, spoon and portable potluck item for a shared trailside lunch Water Sunglasses, hat, and sunscreen A backpack or shoulder bag to carry your supplies A portable chair, stool, blanket or sitting pad Binoculars (optional) Your favorite field guides (optional) The naturalist will meet the group at the main trailhead on the south side of Foxton Road (not at the one for the walk-in campsites.) We will send out an email if the program needs to be changed or cancelled due to hazardous weather. Registration opens one month in advance. Visit LMNC.jeffco.us or call 720-497-7600 for more information and registration. Also, please join the Jeffco Open Space Nature Journal Club Facebook page if you are interested. The page is a great place to find out about club happenings, share your sketches and journal pages, arrange carpools (in the summer trailheads will start to get packed) and chat with each other. https://www.facebook.com/groups/JCOSNatureJournalClub/ Register online at http://www.eventbrite.com/e/jeffco-open-space-nature-journal-club-sketching-wildflowers-tickets-11695281903?aff=eorg

Jul 31 Gentle Bhakti Yoga
A unique 90 minute class focuses on devotional yoga known as Bhakti and the study of the eight-limbs of yoga. It provides an opportunity to learn more about the spiritual depth of the path of a yogi. The class is blend of lecture, mantra, asana and meditation. We open with a bhakti story or reading from the great epics such as the Mahabharata, Ramayana, Patanjalis Yoga Sutras. Following the dharma talk is a short nada yoga practice. (The yoga of sound) The class will chant together and conclude the seated portion of this practice with Pranayama. The last 45 minutes of the class focuses on a gentle vinyasa asana practice. A balanced hatha flow that draws upon the elements of kundalini, ashtanga, and yin yoga. The practice closes with a guided yoga nidra (a meditation style referred to as the sleep of the yogis) in svasana.
