When the Soady clan reunites for opening day of deer season at the family's Upper Peninsula camp, Reuben Soady brings with him the infamous reputation of being the oldest Soady in the history of the Soadys never to bag a buck. To change his luck, Reuben tries to convince his father and brother to change some of the time-honored rituals of their annual hunting pilgrimage, but this seems to set off a series of uncanny incidents involving UFOs, cards, backwoods whiskey, flatulence, and possession by native spirits. Escanaba in da Moonlight is a comic homage to hunting in upstate Michigan and spins a hilarious tale of humor and heart as Reuben goes to any and all lengths to remove himself from the wrong end of the family record book.
