Sign up to build and restore Red Rocks Trail at Matthews/Winters Park on Saturday, June 4 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., celebrating the spirit of National Trails Day. Register at http://bit.ly/NatlTrailsDay2016. Following the work, volunteers will enjoy lunch and have the chance to receive raffle giveaways. Volunteers will address erosion issues through a reroute and restoration of Red Rocks Trail at Cherry Gulch. Matthews/Winters Park in Golden is one of the most popular parks along the Front Range, featuring views of the City of Denver?s Red Rocks Park. No experience is necessary. Volunteers should be in good physical condition. The minimum age for the project is 14, and volunteers under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Jeffco Open Space kicks off its ?Big Five? Saturday volunteer projects on the June 4 National Trails Day, a nationwide celebration of trails that was created by the American Hiking Society. Four other Saturday events will take place in 2016 to complete the ?Big Five?: - June 25: Summer Solstice, Van Bibber Park - July 16: Volunteer in the Valley, South Valley Park - September 24: National Public Lands Day, park to be determined - October 15: Fall Into Service, park to be determined Register for each Trail Day individually at www.jeffcoopenspace.eventbrite.com. Volunteers who register will receive a confirmation, along with more information and instructions about where to meet. Jeffco Open Space was founded as a land conservation organization in 1972. Our mission is to preserve open space and parkland, protect park and natural resources, and provide healthy, nature-based experiences. Funded with a one-half of one percent sales tax, our organization contributes to city and recreation district projects, has preserved more than 54,000 acres, and manages 28 regional parks and more 230 miles of trails in Jefferson County, Colorado.
