Event Description:
Evergreen families are encouraged to join Colorado Parks and Wildlife and its partners for a day of fishing, education, and wildlife recreation at Evergreen Lake Park, Sunday, June 29. This event is a great opportunity to get outside with the kids and learn the basics of safe and ethical wildlife recreation. "Evergreen families live in great wildlife habitat," said Joe Nicholson, wildlife officer for the Evergreen area. "We'd like to see every family have the opportunity to experience some of the wildlife-related recreation that goes on in Colorado to maintain our populations and the health of our wildlife. Learning about the wildlife nearby and understanding our heritage is critical to the future of this precious natural resource." This skills day will feature hands-on, safe instruction in multiple wildlife recreation activities. Participants will be paired with seasoned instructors and experts in the various skills. Opportunities at the event include: -- Fly Fishing and Spin Casting for trout with CPW and Evergreen Trout Unlimited --Colorado hunter education information and hunting camp preparation with CPW and RMEF -- Earning a Junior Wildlife Officer badge from CPW --Fire safety from USFS --Nature walks with Evergreen Audubon --Bear Aware and additional wildlife education with volunteers from CPW --Kids who complete all wildlife recreation activities get entered into a drawing for prizes, including fishing poles and tackle provided by CPW and Evergreen Elks. --Kids at least 8 years old can enter a drawing to win one of multiple pellet guns donated by RMEF (proof of completed hunter education course required to receive pellet guns) --Free lunch from the Evergreen Elks Lodge WHO: Evergreen area families interested in learning wildlife-recreation skills WHAT: Evergreen Outdoor Skills Day WHEN: Sunday, June 29, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. WHERE: Evergreen Lake Park, 29612 Upper Bear Creek Road HOW: RSVP at http://www.register-ed.com/programs/colorado/118-colorado-outreach Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes, a hat, and sunscreen.
