Jefferson County Historical Society will proudly host Lesley Poling-Kempes, award winning author of who will present a program about her recently released book "Ladies of the Canyons:  A League of Extraordinary Women & Their Adventures in the American Southwest".  This is the true story of remarkable women who left the security & comfort of genteel Victorian society & journeyed into the rugged outback of the West in search of themselves & their world.  Local historians will be interested to note that research for this book uncovered the friendships they enjoyed with the Douglas family, original owners of Hiwan, who shared their interest in American Indian art, music, & cultural heritage.
