Name: Baehrden Historic Lodge and Observatory Open House
Date: September 3, 2015
Time: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM MDT
Event Description:
Explore a unique time in Jefferson County by visiting the historic Baehrden Lodge and Observatory. Built in 1927, Baehrden Lodge is a classic representation of the rustic Colorado Alpine style of architecture. Unfortunately, the whole lodge is not yet available but you will be able to walk through and marvel at the restored porch, main room, and dining room. Then you can take the steep hike up to the observatory built for William Baehr in 1937. Come join us for a look into the history of Baehrden and Pine Valley Ranch Park. No formal tours will be offered, however, staff and volunteers will be present to answer questions. Stop by anytime between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm to walk around and get a closer look. Program Details All Ages No registration is required. Please stop by anytime from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. No food, drink, or dogs allowed in either building. Please park in the upper parking lot and go up the stairs that are located across from the parking lot. There will be a small a-frame sign pointing to the stairs. The stairs up to the lodge are very steep. The trail from the parking lot to the front door is approximately 350 ft with a 60 ft elevation gain. This is considered a hard trail. If you feel that you are unable to walk up the stairs a ride can be arranged. If you need a ride please arrive 15 - 20 minutes early. Let the staff member standing at the bottom of the stairs know that you will need to be driven up to the lodge. There is still a short, slightly uphill walk from where you will be dropped off to the lodge. (250 ft with an easy 2 - 8% grade, dirt trail). Please make sure you are still able to walk this distance or have someone with you to assist you. There is a 1/3 mile moderate to strenuous unpaved trail up to the observatory. You must be able to hike this distance to view the observatory. We will be unable to drive participants up to the observatory. If you are unable to walk this distance, we do not recommend this part of the program due to the nature of the hike. The observatory is not ADA accessible. The lodge can be quite cold please dress in layers. Bathrooms are located in the lower parking lot; there are NO BATHROOMS at the lodge or observatory.
