Gary Hart, former Colorado senator, author, attorney and longtime Evergreen resident, will provide an informal talk at 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5 at Congregation Beth Evergreen, 2981 Bergen Peak Drive, Evergreen.  His topic is “Dealing with the apocalyptic, post-Enlightenment, nationalistic, populist 21st century.”

Hart served in the US Congress, representing Colorado, from 1975 to 1987. He has written several books on U.S. history and politics as well as works of fiction. His most recent book, published in 2016, is “The Republic of Conscience,” which Sen. John McCain called “a thought-provoking analysis of modern American democracy and how powerful special interests have impacted our national security and civil society. It’s a must-read from one of the brightest minds of his generation.”

Hart co-chaired the Hart-Rudman Task Force on Homeland Security, served on the Homeland Security Advisory Council and was the United States Special Envoy for Northern Ireland under President Obama. He earned a doctorate in politics from the University of Oxford.
