Hiwan Kids Program Offers Multi-cultural Crafts and Activities for Mid-summer Fun Are your children interested in fossils and archaeology? How about Japanese paper craft or making slime in kitchen experiments? These are just some of the interesting and engaging activities your children will experience at Hiwan Kids this July at the Hiwan Homestead Museum. The program takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout July and is free of charge, courtesy of a grant from the local Blue Spruce Kiwanis. Each day features hands-on activities and each child makes a craft to take home. Hiwan Kids is open to children ages 6 and older, and pre-registration is required. SLIME TIME: Tuesday, July 15, 9:30-11:30 AM Everyone loves oobleck! Oobleck is Seussian for slime. Join us as we conduct fun experiments with kitchen science. DIG IT! ARCHAEOLOGY FOR KIDS: Thursday, July 17, 9:30-11:30 AM Delve into the past and learn how archaeologists uncover its many secrets. COLORADO PIONEER COOKING: Tuesday, July 22, 9:30-11:30 AM Learn about the cooking methods and sample the food of early pioneers in this engaging program. SUMINAGASHI! JAPANESE PAPER CRAFTS: Thursday, July 24, 9:30-11:30 AM Suminagashi is the ancient Japanese art of paper marbling. Make your own unique paper book cover. NATIVE AMERICANS: Tuesday, July 29, 9:30-11:30 AM Several Native American tribes have called Colorado home. Learn about Pueblo pottery, Navajo rugs, and other aspects of Native American culture. It is located in Evergreen at 4208 South Timbervale Drive. Hiwan Homestead Museum is a Jefferson County Open Space facility operated in partnership with the Jefferson County Historical Society. The Museum was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
